Sigmar recruitment is seeking to appoint a Head of Construction recruitment for Ireland. This role will sit within the senior management team and be responsible for all aspects of Sigmar’s construction recruitment team, including hiring, developing, leading and managing the team, whilst also maintaining your own desk and continuing to bill. This is both a strategic and tactical role; strategic in that you will be able to shape the strategy of the construction recruitment team for years to come, defining the verticals we operate in and how we face up to the changing nature of construction – sustainability, MMC, renewables, and all in the face of acute skills shortages. On the tactical side, it will be leading the team in the correct behaviours and activities to drive the short- and medium-term results to make Sigmar the number 1 construction recruitment team in Ireland.

You will be afforded the freedom to make decisions and shape the team as you wish, and you will be supported by a fantastic back-office function in both finance, marketing, IT and legal to enable you to do your job.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of recruiters to achieve and exceed recruitment targets

  • Provide guidance, training, and ongoing support to foster professional development

  • Cultivate a positive and collaborative team culture that values excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement

  • Embrace and encourage internal team collaboration

  • Conduct regular performance reviews, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement

  • Recognize and reward high-performing team members, fostering a culture of excellence and motivation

  • Showcase a growth mindset by driving candidate and account development activities as well as new business development

  • Hire and onboard / train in new team members


You will need to have a strong background in construction recruitment with a clear understanding of the market, the main employers, stakeholders and critically, how to build a strong candidate database. You will need exceptional leadership skills and the ability to switch between blue-sky thinking to “in the weeds” activity quickly and seamlessly. You will need to be a creative thinker, someone who is comfortable with change and disruption (almost a pre-requisite for construction recruitment!) and, most importantly, ambitious to put in the hard work to make this team the best it can be.
